Bashir Salahuddin

Bashir Salahuddin never planned on ending up on a television set when he was walking the halls of Harvard.

He was studying to be a doctor. But comedy got in the way, and he ended up writing jokes for Jimmy Fallon. That's where he met Diallo Riddle. That partnership changed the course of his career forever.

It was a risky decision.

Chicago on Screen

In 2019, she premiered South Side. The series grew out of his own experience in the Englewood neighborhood. He didn't want the tearful social drama Hollywood usually sells about Chicago. He wanted to show the laughter and everyday chaos of a furniture rental store.

The series ran for three seasons before changes in streaming platforms determined its end. Salahuddin not only wrote the scripts. He also played a police officer with limited patience.

And the project wasn't a one-off. With Sherman’s Showcase in 2019, he created a musical parody that examined decades of Black culture on television. The show stood out for a level of technical detail that few creators bother to achieve.

From Screenwriter to Aircraft Carrier

Before 2022, many viewers knew his face but not his name. That changed with the release of Top Gun: Maverick. In the film, he played Hondo. He was the technical liaison for Tom Cruise and the emotional anchor amid all the supersonic flight.

His physical presence makes an impression.

Because he brought a naturalness that action movies often forget. In 2021, he also took part in the musical Cyrano alongside Peter Dinklage. There, he kept the rhythm of a period production without losing his essence. Filming in Sicily demanded a level of physical preparation the actor had never experienced until then.

In 2024, he joined the cast of Miller’s Girl. He shared scenes with Martin Freeman and Jenna Ortega in a psychological drama that moved away from his comedy roots. Critics praised his ability to carry tense scenes with very little dialogue.

The numbers back up his productivity.

Salahuddin remains tied to the production company Paper Kite Productions. In 2024, production records confirmed his involvement in new screenwriting projects for cable television. The contract stipulates exclusivity clauses for the American market.
