San Francisco, 1998. Greg Sestero is nineteen years old, dreams of becoming an actor, and attends acting class with Jean Shelton. There he meets Tommy Wiseau, who stuns everyone with an eccentric reading of a scene from A Streetcar Named Desire. Greg admires his fearlessness, but Tommy has some strange habits. He can afford apartments in San Francisco and Los Angeles, refuses to talk about his private life or the source of his money, and insists he's from New Orleans. Greg tries to find out who this man really is and how far he's willing to follow him in his ambition. The film is directed by and stars James Franco, who plays Wiseau.
