Skyler Gisondo was born in Florida in 1996 and spent much of his childhood in front of a television camera. Unlike other child actors who fade away at puberty, he made his transition almost invisible to audiences. His face became familiar in 2012 when he played Gwen Stacy's little brother in The Amazing Spider-Man.

That role was small and functional, but it taught him how the machinery of a major Hollywood studio worked. He played Eric Bemis across three full seasons, and his chemistry with Liv Hewson was one of the most praised aspects by specialist critics. The show's tone demanded a mix of naturalness and macabre humor that Gisondo handled without apparent effort.

And the risk paid off.

Right after wrapping that phase came his role in Booksmart in 2019. His performance as Jared (a wealthy young man desperate to be liked) was one of the surprises of the U.S. movie season. Director Olivia Wilde gave him the freedom to build a character that, in another actor's hands, could have been irritating, but he infused it with a strange vulnerability.

In 2021, director Paul Thomas Anderson cast him in a brief but pivotal role in Licorice Pizza. Working under Anderson placed Gisondo in a different league, where auteur prestige mattered more than box office. It was a smart move that helped him step away from being typecast in low-budget teen comedies.

The New Face of Metropolis

Gisondo's career has followed an upward path that avoids scandal and focuses on technical reliability. In the HBO series The Righteous Gemstones, he has played Gideon Gemstone since 2019, showing a more physical and dramatic side. His ability to move from absurd comedy to family tension has kept him working steadily.

In June 2023, Gisondo's career took a turn toward large-scale superhero blockbusters. James Gunn cast him as photographer Jimmy Olsen in the new chapter of the DC Comics franchise. This casting marks his return to big-budget productions after years focused on independent film and prestige television.

Casting an actor with his comedic profile for such a classic character suggests a shift in the studio's storytelling tone. Filming for this production officially began in March 2024 at the Atlanta studios.

The worldwide release date for Superman is set for July 11, 2025.
