Synopsis of Santa Clarita Diet

Sheila and Joel Hammond are real estate agents living in Santa Clarita, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Their life is as normal as any neighborhood family's, with their daughter Abby, until Sheila suddenly vomits during a morning open house. Joel thinks she has died, but she wakes up and claims she has expelled something resembling an organ. Back home, he finds she has no pulse and that her heart has stopped beating. Little by little, they both discover that Sheila's body shows reflexes typical of the undead. The family must come to terms with a new reality, in which she needs to feed on human flesh while trying to hide what is happening from their neighbors and the police.

Trivia about Santa Clarita Diet

In February 2017, the series' advertising caused controversy in Germany: Netflix promoted the show with posters of a sliced human finger, like a currywurst.

Victor Fresco came up with the premise because he wanted to make a family series with an approach no one had seen before.

Fresco drew on his experience growing up in the San Fernando Valley, and Santa Clarita was chosen for its middle-class residents.

The third season has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 18 reviews, with an average score of 7.78/10.

Nathan Fillion played Gary West in seasons 1 and 2, and Alan Tudyk took over the role in the third.

Portia de Rossi plays Dr. Cora Wolf, a scientist focused on the undead.

Netflix canceled the series on April 26, 2019, after three seasons, and has not announced a fourth season or any later revival.

Victor Fresco said he learned the series would not continue when his assistant told him the sets were being taken down, rather than receiving a direct notice from Netflix first.
