Synopsis of Lanterns

The Lanterns Corps are intergalactic peacekeepers who gain extraordinary powers from rings. Hal Jordan, a veteran of the corps nearing retirement, trains John Stewart, a rookie recruit who must succeed him. The two arrive in Rushville, Nebraska, where Sheriff Kerry Kane is investigating a murder. Hal suspects the crime is an alien incident, and the joint investigation of the three leads them toward far darker mysteries. Created by Damon Lindelof, Chris Mundy and Tom King, the series airs on HBO and stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre, with Kelly Macdonald as Kerry Kane.

Trivia about Lanterns

Aaron Pierre came very close to playing Adam Warlock in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, according to the series' production team. James Gunn almost gave him that role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Tom King drew on his experience as a CIA officer specializing in counterterrorism to write the series, according to his account of the creative process.

Paul Ben-Victor, who plays Antaan, had previously voiced Bulldozer of Easy Company in Creature Commandos, the first animated series in the DC Universe.

Jordan's green suit is a muted, worn-looking jacket, in contrast to the brighter green and black suits he usually wears in the comics.

In June 2024, the series received a direct order for eight episodes from HBO, after Warner Bros. Discovery decided to turn its intellectual property series into HBO originals.

Filming lasted six months and used three soundstages at the Warner Bros. lot; Piru, about 65 miles from Los Angeles, stood in for the fictional town of Rushville, while some scenes were shot near a former military base in Pomona.

The cast endured tough environmental conditions during filming, with breaks to protect themselves from the heat and safety goggles on some outdoor shooting days.

Peter Safran said the decision on a possible second season would come before the end of 2026, but clarified that it would depend on the writers developing a follow-up worthy of the first.
