Synopsis of Krypton

Syfy airs Krypton, a series created by David S. Goyer and Damian Kindler and starring Cameron Cuffe. The story is set roughly two hundred years before Superman's birth, on the planet that gives the series its name. Seg-El, the future hero's grandfather, is the focus of the story. His family, House El, has been marginalized and disgraced, and he carries that burden from the very beginning. Seg wants to restore his family's honor, but his ambition goes beyond the family name. What worries him most is that his beloved world is spiraling into chaos. With that dual goal, the protagonist faces a hostile environment.

Trivia about Krypton

Regé-Jean Page auditioned for the role of Seg-El but wasn't cast because, according to reports, Geoff Johns felt the character should resemble the actor who played Superman, Henry Cavill.

The creators intended Adam Strange to be an LGBTQ+ character, but that trait was only hinted at after an alleged interference from former DC executive Geoff Johns.

Hawkwoman was considered for an appearance on the series, but the showrunners decided not to include her in the first season because she didn't fit the ongoing storylines.

The series pilot was filmed in Serbia by September 2016, with Colm McCarthy directing.

The second season began filming in Belfast in October 2018 and wrapped on March 3, 2019.

The first season has a 60% score on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 42 reviews, with an average rating of 6.26/10.

Blake Ritson spent between four and seven hours in prosthetic makeup to play Brainiac, and his first appearance in the full design reportedly scared some of the cast and crew.

Syfy canceled the series in August 2019, after two seasons, and also scrapped the Lobo spin-off that would have starred Emmett J. Scanlan.
