Colin Salmon walked into the Bond producers' office in 1997 with the confidence of someone with nothing to lose. Pierce Brosnan had personally recommended him after seeing his work on British television. That decision landed him the role of Charles Robinson in Tomorrow Never Dies.

And it worked.

He played an intelligence liaison in three installments of the world's most famous spy saga. But Salmon was never the typical supporting player who disappears amid the fireworks of action scenes. His physical presence and deep voice allowed him to hold his own on screen opposite Judi Dench and 007 himself without blinking.

The Trumpeter Who Learned to Stay Quiet

Before stepping in front of a camera, Salmon made a living with a trumpet in hand. He played jazz in London venues and was part of several punk and reggae bands in the early eighties. That musical background explains the rhythm with which he delivers his lines on screen.

In 1992, he made his debut in the series Prime Suspect 2 alongside Helen Mirren. His role as Sergeant Robert Oswalde put him on the radar of international casting directors. But he wasn't chasing quick fame.

He chose to hone his craft on stage before making the leap to mainstream films.

Zombies and the Return Home

Paul W. S. Anderson signed him in 2002 to lead the commando team in Resident Evil. His character met his end in a laser grid in one of the most memorable sequences in genre cinema. Years later, in 2012, the same director brought him back to the franchise in Resident Evil: Afterlife through a plot twist based on cloning.

That laser death is still studied in visual effects schools.

So the actor took on the challenge of daily television after decades in action movies.

In 2023, he joined the cast of EastEnders to play George Knight. His initial contract tied the actor to the BBC production for an extended shoot at the Elstree studios. His arrival in Albert Square brought a veteran presence capable of recording fifteen pages of script a day without technical mistakes.
