Synopsis of Da Vinci's Demons

The series follows the "untold" story of Leonardo Da Vinci: the genius during his early years in Renaissance Florence. As a 25-year old artist, inventor, swordsman, lover, dreamer and idealist, he struggles to live within the confines of his own reality and time as he begins to not only see the future, but invent it.

«Same genius. New world.»

Trivia about Da Vinci's Demons

Goyer secretly shot a kiss between Leonardo and Jacopo Saltarelli in the fifth episode, fearing interference from the network.

The premiere drew more than 2.14 million viewers, and the network decided to renew the series for a second season.

Tom Riley was the first actor cast, after The Hollywood Reporter announced he had landed the role of Leonardo da Vinci.

Season one earned a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 32 reviews.

Season three was the last because Starz felt its other series performed better with the same audience; in addition, production had already wrapped when the cancellation was announced.

David S. Goyer had planned a fourth season set fifteen years later, during the Bonfire of the Vanities, but the cancellation prevented that storyline from being developed.

Goyer explained that each episode required about sixteen days of filming and that the visual effects for season three took longer than planned.

The series received four Academy of Television Arts & Sciences nominations, including two Emmy nominations for Outstanding Special Visual Effects for 2013 and 2014.
