Synopsis of Broadchurch

Broadchurch is a British suspense series aired on ITV, created by Chris Chibnall and starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman. It is set in Broadchurch, a fictional coastal village in Dorset, England, just as its residents prepare to welcome the first summer tourists. The calm is shattered when Danny Latimer, an eleven-year-old boy, disappears and his mother, Beth, anxiously searches the streets for him. His body soon turns up, and the case falls to Inspector Alec Hardy and Sergeant Ellie Miller. They must uncover what happened in a small, close-knit community, where media pressure and mistrust among neighbors complicate every step of the investigation.

Trivia about Broadchurch

Chibnall came up with the idea for Broadchurch in 2003, while working on his first series, Born and Bred.
The name Broadchurch combines the hamlets of Broadoak and Whitchurch, two towns in Dorset that Chibnall used as a basis.
During filming, only four cast members knew the identity of the killer, as Olivia Colman confirmed in an interview with Graham Norton.
The village of Clevedon, on the outskirts of Bristol, served as Broadchurch during filming of the series.
Ólafur Arnalds won the BAFTA for Best Original Music for Television in the BAFTA Craft Awards category.
The first season won a Peabody Award for its distinguished and meritorious contributions to excellence in quality television.
Fox announced an American version titled Gracepoint, which also starred David Tennant and was written by Chris Chibnall.
The first episode of the first season was watched by an average of 9.1 million viewers, with a 31% audience share.
