It is the night before college graduation, July 15, 1988, in Edinburgh. Emma Morley, a young woman from a working-class family in northern England, is finishing her studies with very clear ideas about how to make the world better and few resources to carry them out. Dexter Mayhew, heir to a wealthy family from the south of the country, celebrates the same day with the confidence of someone who believes everything will work out for him. The two cross paths as near strangers, and the evening leads them somewhere neither had expected. The film, directed by Lone Scherfig, stars Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.
