Synopsis of Time

Time is a British series created by Jimmy McGovern and broadcast on BBC One. Each season changes its setting and cast, but it always follows the inmates and staff of Her Majesty's Prison Service. In the first season, starring Sean Bean and Stephen Graham, Mark Cobden has just entered prison. He carries the guilt of the crime he committed and feels overwhelmed by a violent, volatile world. There he meets Eric McNally, an excellent officer who does everything he can to protect those in his care. But one of the most dangerous inmates discovers his weak spot, and Eric will have to choose between his principles and his family.

Trivia about Time

Most of the first season was filmed in the Liverpool City region, and the cell blocks and cells were shot at the former HM Prison Shrewsbury, which closed in 2013.

To complete the prison setting, the production used courtrooms, police stations and educational buildings, along with exteriors such as the Silver Jubilee Bridge in Widnes and the pier in Southport.

The first season earned a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 23 reviews.

The third season was filmed in Belfast and moved the story to a young offenders institution, with David Tennant as prison governor Bobby Bailey and Siobhan Finneran returning as chaplain Marie-Louise O'Dell.

The third season added Vinette Robinson, Jo Joyner, Daniel Ryan and Louis McCartney, along with several performers making their television debuts, including Ollie McNulty and Chukwubuikem Molokwu.

The third season, made up of three episodes, premiered on BBC iPlayer on October 11, 2026 and aired on BBC One starting that same day, with the second episode scheduled for October 12.
