Trivia about The War of the Worlds

The series was announced in December 2015, and the BBC confirmed its production in May 2017.

Screenwriter Peter Harness expanded the role of the narrator's wife compared to the original novel.

The narrative jumps back and forth through the timeline, intended to subvert audience expectations.

Filming locations included Liverpool, where production began in April 2018, including the Palm House at Sefton Park and Croxteth Hall.

Its UK premiere was originally scheduled for Christmas 2018, but the series reached Canada first, on T+E, between October 6 and October 20, 2019.

Professional critics gave the series mixed reviews: it holds a 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on 22 reviews.

The BBC explained that the UK premiere was delayed because the visual effects took longer than expected to complete, although the series had already aired in other territories.

The adaptation drew criticism from viewers for straying from H. G. Wells's novel, particularly for its focus on divorce and several changes to the characters.
