Synopsis of The Capture

In present-day London, former British Special Forces soldier Shaun Emery is released from prison after his conviction for a war crime committed in Afghanistan is overturned. The video evidence that incriminated him was flawed. His return to civilian life is short-lived, as security camera footage points to him as the perpetrator of the assault and kidnapping of his lawyer, Hannah Roberts. Emery wants to prove his innocence while Detective Rachel Carey, of the Major Crime and Serious Crime Command, takes over the case. Carey begins to suspect there is a larger conspiracy and that the recordings may not be reliable. Created by Ben Chanan, the series airs on BBC One and stars Holliday Grainger and Callum Turner.

Trivia about The Capture

The idea came years earlier, when Ben Chanan was interviewing counterterrorism officers in the UK and the US, and he became interested in the central role video evidence plays in securing convictions.
Chanan initially pitched the concept without success and returned to it after writing the first episode as a spec script.
It was the most requested new release of 2019 on BBC iPlayer, with more than 20 million requests for the first season.
Callum Turner received a British Academy Television Award nomination for Best Actor for his performance in the first season.
The interior scenes of the first episode were filmed at Canterbury Prison in Kent, which served as HMP Gladstone in London.
Other interior scenes were filmed on Printworks Avenue in Rotherhithe and at The Shard.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the first season has a 92% approval rating, with an average score of 8.1/10 based on 39 critics.
Many reviews of the first season's finale compared the series favorably to Bodyguard, also a BBC show that aired the previous season.
