Freya Allan was born in Oxfordshire in 2001. Her training at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts gave her the foundation she needed to understand that the industry gives nothing away. Before turning eighteen, she already knew what it meant to work on short films such as Bluebird or The Christmas Tree.
Then came the break that often sinks mediocre actors.
In 2018, she was originally cast for a small role in the first episode of The Witcher. But the production team saw something different during camera tests and ended up giving her the role of Ciri. It was a risky move for a teenager with little prior experience in major Netflix productions.
In 2019, the series premiere put her at the center of a storm of fan and critical attention. Playing Ciri meant growing physically on screen while the script demanded constant psychological development. She went from a frightened girl to a warrior who handles a sword with enviable technical precision (the result of months of training with specialists).
The series required her to move to Hungary and spend months away from home. Filming for the first season lasted more than seven months, and Allan had to learn to handle the weight of a billion-dollar franchise on her shoulders.
In 2021, she appeared in Gunpowder Milkshake, playing the younger version of Karen Gillan's character. It was a brief role, but it showed that her face worked in stylized action cinema. In that production, she shared the screen with actresses of the caliber of Lena Headey and Angela Bassett.
But 2024 was her real trial by fire on the big screen.
She starred in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Wes Ball. On this production, she had to interact with actors wearing motion-capture suits for the entire workday. The film's budget exceeded 160 million dollars, and the pressure to preserve the legacy of the franchise was immense.
And the gamble paid off.
Allan plays Mae, a human who must survive in a world dominated by primates. For this role, she shot in natural locations in Australia under challenging weather conditions. The IMAX cameras used in the production captured every detail of her physical performance in a hostile environment.
In 2024, Baghead also premiered in various international markets. It's a horror film in which Allan plays a young heiress trapped in a pub that hides a supernatural entity in its basement. The project allowed her to explore a darker, more claustrophobic register.
It's not all spotlights and red carpets.
Allan has kept a careful distance from the British tabloid press. She prefers to talk about her training sessions or the techniques needed to shoot action scenes without stunt doubles. She understands that longevity in film depends more on craft than on social media exposure.
For the ape saga filmed in Australia, she had to learn basic survival techniques so her movements would look natural in the forest. The production used Weta FX rendering software to integrate her human figure with the digital characters in post-production.
