Synopsis of One Day

Emma Morley and Dexter Mayhew meet at a graduation ball, just after finishing their studies at the University of Edinburgh. That night marks the start of a relationship that the series follows over twenty years, with two people who keep crossing paths at different moments in their lives. The story alternates between the youth of both characters and their adult lives, and observes what happens between them as time passes. The British series, created by Nicole Taylor, adapts David Nicholls' novel published in 2009 and stars Ambika Mod and Leo Woodall. It streams on Netflix as a limited series.

Trivia about One Day

The series was the most-watched in the world during the week of February 12, 2024, with 9.9 million views.

In November 2022, actress Ambika Mod explained that the series would cover more of the novel than the 2011 film adaptation.

The end credits include a dedication to Justin Eely, senior online editor who worked on the entire series before passing away unexpectedly.

Part of the filming took place at the Old College of the University of Edinburgh, as well as in the city center, the West End and the Old Town.

The original music was composed by Anne Nikitin, along with Tim Morrish and Jessica Jones, of the musical duo Vanbur.

Leo Woodall landed the role of Dexter after several casting auditions; Nicole Taylor explained that he moved away from the stereotype of the posh young Englishman and that his vulnerability proved decisive.

Ambika Mod initially turned down the audition for the role of Emma because she didn't see herself in the character and felt her personal connection to the novel was too important; several people had to persuade her.

Filming took place over approximately eight months, and Mod and Woodall appear in nearly every shot across all fourteen episodes.
