Synopsis of The Crowded Room

New York, summer of 1979. Danny Sullivan, played by Tom Holland, has just been arrested for his involvement in a shooting in the city. Investigator Rya Goodwin, played by Amanda Seyfried, becomes interested in the case and takes him through a series of interviews. Danny decides to tell his story from the beginning, intending to explain what led him to that incident. As he talks, he uncovers a mysterious past that he himself is trying to understand. The series, created by Akiva Goldsman for Apple TV+, rests on the dialogue between the two characters, in which the protagonist revisits his memories to understand how he ended up caught up in the event.

Trivia about The Crowded Room

It was later revealed that the first season was based on Goldsman's own life, with Daniel Keyes's novel as an inspiration.

Filming locations include NBC Studios, housed in the historic 30 Rockefeller Plaza skyscraper in New York.

In May 2023, Holland told Entertainment Weekly that filming took a toll on his mental health and that it took him a long time to recover.

The song "Let it Be" by The Beatles appears several times throughout the season as a narrative device.

The soundtrack, composed by Trevor Gureckis, was released on June 9, 2023 on Platoon Records.

Tom Holland and Amanda Seyfried spent nearly three weeks filming the out-of-order interrogation scenes and memorized more than 100 pages of dialogue for a single table.

In January 2025, Holland said the set atmosphere was marked by animosity, arguments and clashes, though he clarified that they were not related to creative decisions or the production of the series.

Tom Holland was nominated for 2024 for Best Actor in a Miniseries or Television Film for his work on the series.
