Synopsis of Alien: Earth

The series is set in a near future on Earth, two years before the events of Alien: The Eighth Passenger. In this world, humanity pursues immortality along three paths: cyborgs, with biomechatronic body parts; synthetics, artificial beings endowed with intelligence; and hybrids, synthetic bodies that house a transferred human consciousness. When the deep-space research ship USCSS Maginot crashes into the planet, a young hybrid named Wendy and a diverse group of tactical soldiers launch a rescue mission. They search for survivors among the wreckage, but discover an alien threat far more dangerous than they expected, and their decisions could change Earth forever.

Trivia about Alien: Earth

The production built 82 sets spread across more than 13 studios in Bangkok, according to the shoot described in the series profile.

During the 2023 writers' and actors' strike, producer Chris Lowenstein kept working in Bangkok and called the pause "a blessing in disguise."

The series' production scale surpassed that of Shōgun, whose budget is estimated at $250 million.

Jeff Russo uses unconventional instruments in his score, such as the desmophon, because he has no formal training as an orchestral composer and sees it as an advantage.

Episodes end with famous rock, metal and alternative rock songs, because Hawley wanted to emphasize the cliffhanger endings.

The first episode drew 9.2 million views worldwide during its first six days of streaming, according to The Walt Disney Company.

Sigourney Weaver, who played Ellen Ripley in the original films, said the series is "much deeper than a simple Alien movie."

FX renewed "Alien: Earth" for a second season in November 2025, and Noah Hawley later signed a global deal with FX and Disney Entertainment Television.
