Synopsis of The End of the F***ing World

James is a 17-year-old who considers himself a psychopath. Tired of killing animals, he decides he wants to try a human, and his chosen victim is Alyssa, a foul-mouthed, rebellious high school classmate who says she hates everyone. They attend the same school and lead lives that, on the surface, seem unhappy. The first episode kicks off when Alyssa, fed up after an argument with her friends, smashes one of them's phone and comes face to face with James. From there, he starts hanging around her with his plans, while she sees in him a way to escape her home. Created by Jonathan Entwistle for Channel 4, the series stars Alex Lawther and Jessica Barden.

Trivia about The End of the F***ing World

The show's earlier 2014 short film starred Jessica Barden as Alyssa, but Craig Roberts played James instead of Alex Lawther.

The show departs from the comic in some plot details: instead of the original's agents, it features police officers Eunice Noon and Teri Darego.

Channel 4 programming director Ian Katz complained in August 2018 that many people believe the series is a Netflix original.

Although it was filmed in England, the series has an American tone, and Entwistle drew inspiration from Twin Peaks and Fargo.

In October 2019, ahead of the second season's premiere, Charlie Covell stated that they have no intention of producing a third season.

Both seasons were nominated for the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Series, and the second season won in 2020 and received a Peabody Award in 2019.

During the filming of the first scene in the café, the boy sitting next to Alex Lawther laughed so hard that the crew had to redo it about five times.
