Synopsis of Lovecraft Country

United States, 50. Atticus Freeman is a young Black man who, after learning that his father has disappeared, joins his friend Letitia and his uncle George on a road trip across a country still governed by Jim Crow segregation laws. What begins as a family search turns into a fight for survival, against both the racism of white Americans and terrifying creatures that seem to have stepped out of a Lovecraft novel. Along the way, the group must learn to navigate a country where every stop could go wrong. Created by Misha Green and aired on HBO, the series stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Jonathan Majors.

Trivia about Lovecraft Country

On July 2, 2021, HBO announced that the series would not return for a second season.

According to the book Tinderbox by James Andrew Miller, several writers blamed the cancellation on Misha Green creating a hostile work environment.

Laura Karpman composed the music, and she and her team had to work from their homes in Eastern Europe because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filming also took place at White Pines State Park in Mount Morris, Illinois, and at the Blackhall Studios in Atlanta and Macon, Georgia.

Abbey Lee replaced Elizabeth Debicki in the role of Christina Braithwaite, according to reports on June 14, 2019.

According to reports, Jordan Peele originally brought the project to Bad Robot Productions and hired Misha Green to develop it.

On Rotten Tomatoes, the series has a 88% approval rating based on 367 reviews, with an average rating of 8.05/10.

The series won two Emmy Awards in 2021: Courtney B. Vance took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, and the show also received the award for Outstanding Sound Editing.
