Synopsis of Dracula

Claes Bang plays Count Dracula in this British drama and horror miniseries created by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, aired on BBC One and Netflix. The story begins in Transylvania, from where the Count travels to London to satisfy his thirst for blood. The series reinterprets Bram Stoker's character: it adds new phobias and motivations, builds out stories and characters around the original novel, and makes him the protagonist of his own tale. The conflict arises from the clash between the vampire and those who stand in his way, including the descendants of Abraham Van Helsing. The legend is transformed and his vulnerability comes to light.

Trivia about Dracula

The campaign's billboards, with wooden stakes driven into them, won several awards and 100,000 pounds in ad space at the 2020 Outdoor Media Awards.

The Bray Studios, where part of the series was shot, were the home base for many Hammer Film Productions during the 1950s. Hammer was known for its horror films, including Dracula.

The preliminary audiences for the three episodes were 3.60 million, 2.85 million and 2.70 million viewers, respectively.

Moffat refused to describe Dracula as bisexual, insisting he is "bi-homicidal" because, in his view, he kills his victims rather than dating them.

The series was nominated for Best New Drama at the 2020 TV Choice Awards, but it did not win.

Mark Gatiss played Frank, a modern-day version of Renfield, in the third episode of the miniseries.

Netflix released the three episodes outside the United Kingdom on January 4, 2020, just days after their back-to-back broadcast on BBC One.

The first episode's audience nearly doubled once views on BBC iPlayer and Netflix were added to its initial broadcast numbers.
