Synopsis of 12 Monkeys

In 2043, James Cole is a scavenger in a devastated world. A team of scientists from the Splinter project, led by physicist Katarina Jones, recruits him to travel back in time to 2015. His mission is to prevent the release of a deadly virus created by the enigmatic Army of the Twelve Monkeys. In Cole's timeline, the plague killed 93.6% of the world's population. To complete the job, he will be joined by Cassandra Railly, a brilliant virologist, and Jennifer Goines, a mathematical genius with mental health issues. Created by Terry Matalas and Travis Fickett, the series airs on Syfy and stars Aaron Stanford as Cole in this race against time to stop the organization before the virus spreads.

Trivia about 12 Monkeys

The pilot was shot in Detroit, but from the second episode onward, most of the filming moved to Toronto, both on location and at Cinespace Film Studios.
The original screenplay, titled Splinter, eventually became an adaptation of Twelve Monkeys after an agreement between its writers and Atlas Entertainment.
The music from the original film, an arrangement of Astor Piazzolla's Suite Punta del Este by Paul Buckmaster, plays in the ninth episode of season two, "Hyena."
Before the premiere, Terry Gilliam, director of the original film, called the series "a very silly idea" and said nobody had contacted him.
The American Society of Cinematographers awarded the series' cinematography once and nominated it two more times.
For season one, scenes were shot in the Republic of North Macedonia, standing in for Chechnya, and in the Dominican Republic, standing in for Haiti.
The series was renewed for a fourth season, announced as the last, which consisted of eleven episodes aired between June 15 and July 6, 2018.
