Synopsis of The Leftovers
Three years after the Sudden Departure, on October 14, 2011, 140 million people, or 2% of the world's population, vanished without explanation. In Mapleton, a small town in New York, Police Chief Kevin Garvey tries to keep up an appearance of normalcy as his family falls apart and the town's order begins to crumble. Nora Durst, a widow, and her brother, Reverend Matt Jamison, are also searching for their place in a world they no longer understand. Meanwhile, cults are growing, such as the Guilty Remnant, a group of white-clad nihilists, or the followers of a man who claims to be the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Created by Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta for HBO, the series stars Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon.
