The Fellowship of the Ring has been dissolved. The Ring-bearer Frodo and his loyal friend Sam make their way toward Mordor to destroy the One Ring and put an end to Sauron's power. Meanwhile, after the fierce battle against the orcs in which Boromir fell, the man Aragorn, the elf Legolas, and the dwarf Gimli try to rescue the hobbits Merry and Pippin, who were captured by the ogres of Mordor. Meanwhile, Sauron and the traitor Saruman continue their plans in Mordor, awaiting war against the free peoples of Middle-earth.
