Synopsis of Schitt's Creek

Johnny Rose and his wife Moira, a former soap opera actress, lead a wealthy family living in luxury with their adult children, David and Alexis. A business manager cheats them, and they lose almost all their money, and the government seizes the mansion. All they have left is Schitt's Creek, a small, remote town in Canada that Johnny bought as a joke for David's birthday gift in 1991. With no other option, they move into two adjoining rooms of a rundown motel and try to rebuild their lives. Their refined manners clash with the locals, starting with the eccentric mayor Roland Schitt, his wife Jocelyn, and motel manager Stevie. The comedy, created by Dan Levy and Eugene Levy and aired on the Canadian network CBC, follows characters who must adapt to an environment that is nothing like the one they knew.

Trivia about Schitt's Creek

The idea came to Dan Levy while he was watching reality shows. He wondered what would happen to the wealthy families on those shows if they lost all their money.

The premise was inspired by the 20 million dollar purchase of the town of Braselton, Georgia, made by actress Kim Basinger in 1989.

To convince CBC to keep the original title, the creators brought pages from a phone book listing people with the last name Schitt.

Annie Murphy was about to quit acting, having gone more than two years without work, when she received an email inviting her to audition for Alexis.

According to Daniel Levy, Emily Hampshire pulled his shirt over his head during his audition and slowly rocked back and forth.

Noah Reid's version of "The Best" reached number 1 on Canadian charts after the song was featured on the show, and the proceeds were donated to LGBT Youth Line.

The final season swept the seven major comedy categories at the 72th Primetime Emmy Awards, something no comedy or drama series had achieved before.

The Rose family's mansion in the opening scene of the first episode is the former Lisa Vanderpump property in Beverly Park, Los Angeles.
