Synopsis of VisionQuest

Vision, the android played by Paul Bettany, has spent years hiding among humans. By day he works in an Edinburgh pub, passing as a man, while trying to understand who he is. At night he retreats into his mind, a space called Mindspace, where he converses with several AI personalities built into his programming. Each one takes on a human avatar and has its own traits. Among them is Ultron, with whom he has a complex relationship. Everything changes when someone puts a price on his head and a bounty hunter named Paladin, played by Todd Stashwick, starts tracking him. Vision then flees with Tommy, a mysterious teenager who could be his reincarnated son. Created by Terry Matalas for Disney+, the series combines escape, identity and a family bond that neither of them fully understands.

Trivia about VisionQuest

Matalas and his team drew inspiration from two scenes: the final conversation between Vision and Ultron in Age of Ultron, which was the starting point, and the Ship of Theseus debate between the two versions of Vision in WandaVision.

The design team created more than forty custom objects branded with Vision for the Mindspace kitchen, including mustard, hot sauce, soup and vibranium foil.

E.D.I.T.H. has 21 different outfits, more than any other character in the series, and her costume was inspired by Amelia Earhart and World War II pilots.

Matalas hired Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer, who play D.U.M.-E. and U., after seeing them perform in the play Peter Pan Goes Wrong.

The title Vision Quest had already been used in a West Coast Avengers storyline, in issues 42 through 45 published between 1988 and 1989.

Filming began in March 2025 at Pinewood Studios in London and wrapped at the end of July, with Terry Matalas directing several episodes alongside Christopher J. Byrne, Gandja Monteiro and Vincenzo Natali.

The series was shot under the working title Tin Man, a name used during production before Marvel revealed the final title.

Terry Matalas confirmed that no generative artificial intelligence was used in the production; instead, the design of the Mindspace included deliberate spatial errors, such as staircases that don't connect and chairs built into the walls.
