Synopsis of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Six months after Steve Rogers hands the shield and Captain America mantle to Sam Wilson at the end of Avengers: Endgame, Wilson questions whether he should take on that role. Alongside Bucky Barnes, the former Winter Soldier, he sets out on a global mission to stop the Flag Smashers, an anti-patriotic group. Its members have been enhanced with a recreation of the Super-Soldier Serum and believe the world was better during the Blip, the period when half of all life in the universe disappeared. Wilson and Barnes, two people with little in common and no prior friendship, must work together as the series explores whether the Blip will unite or divide the world. Created by Malcolm Spellman for Disney+, the miniseries stars Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.

Trivia about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier

Good Morning America correspondent Sara Haines makes a cameo in the series as herself.

Spellman had a migraine when he pitched his idea to Feige, and he felt the pitch hadn't gone well.

Spellman admitted that the studio found it a real learning challenge, since he approached it like a six-hour movie.

The episodes, running between 45 and 55 minutes each, reportedly had budgets that reached 25 million dollars.

Composer Henry Jackman described the series as a psychological drama, while Mackie and Stan defined it as a mix of superhero action and buddy comedy with an awkward pairing.

Spellman pointed to a 12-second moment in Captain America: Civil War that made it seem like any Marvel fan could see Wilson and Barnes carrying a franchise.

Filming was halted in Prague in March 2020, when roughly 75% of the planned material had been shot in the Czech Republic, and it resumed months later with permission from the Czech government and health protocols in place.

The opening aerial sequence was planned using footage of real skydivers in flight suits as reference; Anthony Mackie filmed many close-ups suspended on wires in a studio, though never actually flew.
