Synopsis of Dollhouse

Echo is one of the "actives," people whose memories have been wiped so they can be programmed with whatever personality each job requires. The Dollhouse in Los Angeles is one of the locations of a company that rents these actives to wealthy clients for assignments ranging from romantic encounters to high-risk criminal operations. Between missions, the actives return to a blank, childlike state. The series, created by Joss Whedon and starring Eliza Dushku, airs on FOX. Besides Echo, it follows the people who run the place and two other actives, Victor and Sierra. The whole business is illegal, and FBI agent Paul Ballard suspects that Caroline, Echo's real name, has been kidnapped. That's why he won't stop searching for her.

«She can be anyone, except herself.»

Trivia about Dollhouse

Fox skipped ordering a pilot episode and put the money into an enormous set, described as a full-size "dollhouse."

The first episode shot, "Echo," was reshot several times and ultimately pulled from broadcast, although parts of it were reused in later episodes.

Dollhouse and Fringe aired their first seasons with half the commercials and promos of most network dramas, as part of a Fox initiative called "Remote-Free TV."

Whedon shot a new 13 episode, "Epitaph One," on a smaller budget to meet the contractual requirements for international broadcasts.

Fox's entertainment president said that, had the series been canceled, he would probably have received 110 million fan emails that morning.

In its second season, the series dropped the 35 mm film and switched to being shot in high-definition video.

The renewal of Dollhouse for a second season came with the condition that it would be the last; Joss Whedon scaled back its original plan of five seasons to wrap up the story in just one.
