Synopsis of Altered Carbon

In the year 2384, human identity can be stored on a digital medium and transferred to another body, so death is no longer permanent. Takeshi Kovacs, a former member of the elite military special forces, is brought back to life 250 years later inside the body of police officer Elias Ryker in Bay City, a futuristic metropolis. Wealthy and powerful aristocrat Laurens Bancroft has had him revived with an offer: he will regain his freedom if he solves a murder. Joel Kinnaman plays Kovacs in this science fiction series created by Laeta Kalogridis and released on Netflix.

Trivia about Altered Carbon

Reportedly, the series was Netflix's most expensive production to date. Kinnaman said its budget was larger than the first three seasons of Game of Thrones combined.
Jimi Hendrix's heirs refused to license his image for the series because of its violence, so showrunner Laeta Kalogridis chose a likeness of Edgar Allan Poe for the hotel character.
Netflix canceled the series on August 26, 2020, after two seasons. The decision had nothing to do with COVID-19; it came down to viewership numbers versus the cost of renewals.
The costume team made at least 500 custom pieces for the series and added subtle wardrobe changes when different people inhabit the same body.
The series features references to cyberpunk classics such as Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell, as well as literary works like the stories of Edgar Allan Poe.
Laurens Bancroft's gardens were filmed at the Rose Garden at the University of British Columbia, and the lobby of the Marine Building served as Bancroft's home.
In November 2018, Netflix announced an anime movie spun off from the series, Altered Carbon: Resleeved, which it hoped would "expand the universe" of the story. It premiered on March 19, 2020.
Netflix greenlit the series in January 2016, at a time when it had committed to spending 5,000 million dollars on original content.
