Synopsis of Sex Education

Sex Education is a British comedy-drama series created by Laurie Nunn for Netflix. It is set in the fictional town of Moordale in present-day United Kingdom and revolves around its high school. Otis Milburn is a shy, socially awkward virgin who is unsure of his stance on sex. This is because his mother, Jean, is a sex therapist who speaks openly about every aspect of intimacy. When Maeve Wiley, a smart but troubled classmate, discovers that Otis has answers for almost everything, she proposes setting up a sex advice clinic at school. Their goal is to help fellow students with their problems while they try to handle their own. Asa Butterfield, Gillian Anderson and Emma Mackey lead the cast.

Trivia about Sex Education

In January 2019, Netflix announced that the series was on track to surpass 40 million viewers in its first month of release.

Sex Education was the first Netflix production to use intimacy coordinators to choreograph intimate scenes.

The scenes set at Moordale School were filmed on the former campus of the University of South Wales in Caerleon, Newport.

In July 2022, an illustrated manga adaptation by John Tarachine began running in the online magazine Comic Bridge, published by Kadokawa.

Aimee Lou Wood won the BAFTA for Best Actress in a Comedy for her role in the second season.

The third season won the award for Best Comedy Series at the 50th International Emmy Awards.

While writing the fourth season, Laurie Nunn decided it would be the last, feeling the stories had reached a natural conclusion; Netflix confirmed it as the final season in July 2023.

Nunn said she does not rule out continuing to explore the series' universe with other characters, although no specific spin-off has been announced.
