Synopsis of Castle

Richard Castle is a successful mystery novelist who lives in New York and goes through a long creative block. His inspiration seems to return when someone starts copying the murders from one of his novels in real life. The police bring him in for questioning, and there he meets Detective Kate Beckett, the officer leading the case. Beckett wants nothing to do with a writer who gets in the way of her investigations, but Castle sees in her the perfect character for a new book series. So he insists on accompanying her to every case, although the detective only accepts his company because her captain orders her to. Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic star as the leads in this series created by Andrew W. Marlowe and aired on ABC.

The real-life writers Stephen J. Cannell, James Patterson, Dennis Lehane, and Michael Connelly appear as themselves in the poker games held at Castle's apartment.
Following the death of Stephen J. Cannell on September 30, 2010, the poker table kept an empty chair in his honor for a full year.
In March 2009, Metacritic gave the series a 53 out of 100, while audiences rated it 9.3 out of 10.
The series earned 5 nominations at the People's Choice Awards and won the award for favorite television crime drama three years in a row.
In April 2016, ABC announced that Stana Katic and Tamala Jones would not return for a possible ninth season; the network attributed Katic's exit to budget constraints.
Although several cast members had signed contract extensions for a possible ninth season, ABC canceled "Castle" on May 12, 2016, four days before airing the final episode.
The series ended after 173 episodes aired between 2009 and 2016, and only three actors were part of the cast for every installment.
During the eighth season, production asked Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic to attend couples therapy sessions together, according to a report published during the controversy over the series finale.
