Synopsis of DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

Jeffrey Dahmer, played by Evan Peters, is the focus of this series that reconstructs how he became one of the most notorious serial killers in the United States. The story looks at his childhood and adolescence, shaped by an absent father, Lionel, played by Richard Jenkins, and a mother struggling with drug addiction. Around him are his stepmother Shari, played by Molly Ringwald, and his grandmother Catherine, played by Michael Learned. The events take place in Ohio and Wisconsin between 1978 and 1991. The series, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for Netflix, raises a central question: what forces drove this man toward his crimes, and how he managed to evade justice for so long.

Trivia about DAHMER - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story

The series debuted at number one on the Nielsen Top 10 streaming chart, with more than 3,600 million minutes viewed in the week of September 19 to 25, placing it tenth on the all-time weekly viewing list.

Netflix announced that Dahmer was its ninth most popular English-language TV show of all time, with 56 million households having watched the 10 episodes.

Evan Peters created a compilation of 45 minutes of recordings of Dahmer speaking, which they listened to daily to study his diction.

Early makeup tests included blue contact lenses, but Peters preferred a more understated look because they believed an exact physical resemblance was less important than the story being told.

The music was composed and performed by Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, and the soundtrack album was released the same day as the series.

The series received 13 nominations at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards, and Niecy Nash ultimately won Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Production coordinator Kim Alsup said she was repeatedly mistaken for the other Black member of the crew, and that the shoot had no mental health coordinators; Netflix responded that it offered free wellness resources and access to a therapist.

The family of one victim, Eric Perry, publicly criticized the series because Netflix and its producers had not contacted relatives before making it; Perry also questioned the television exploitation of his experience.
