Synopsis of Mom

Christy Plunkett is a single mother from Napa, California, who has just put years of alcohol and drug addiction behind her. She tries to start over by waiting tables at a restaurant and attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, while working to regain the trust of her teenage daughter, Violet, who confesses in the first episode that she is pregnant, and caring for her young son, Roscoe. She and her mother, Bonnie, have been estranged for a long time, and Bonnie is also struggling to stay sober. The two want to rebuild their relationship while learning to live without using. Created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Gemma Baker, the series airs on CBS and stars Anna Faris and Allison Janney.

Trivia about Mom

With this series, Lorre had four sitcoms airing on the same network starting with the 2013-14 season, a career milestone at CBS.
Allison Janney won two consecutive Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, in 2014 and 2015.
With an average audience of 11.79 million viewers, the series became the third highest-rated comedy on American television.
Unlike most multicam sitcoms on CBS, the series used serialized storytelling, with plotlines that stretched across multiple episodes and seasons.
Anna Faris announced her departure before the eighth season to pursue new opportunities; the series did not replace Christy and focused the final season on Bonnie.
The cancellation caught the crew off guard during filming of the eighth season: only five episodes were left to shoot, and two were already written.
The eighth season was shot in front of a studio audience during the pandemic, was pushed back from September to November 2020, and faced a lengthy pause due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.
The series ended after eight seasons, and its finale aired on May 13, 2021.
