Synopsis of Arrested Development

In Newport Beach, California, the Bluths are a family that has gone from wealth to scarcity. Michael, one of its members, tries to keep afloat a group of relatives who act as if nothing has changed and who are unwilling to give up their whims. The series is presented as a mockumentary, with handheld camera work, interviews and a voice-over narration that comments on every situation. Ron Howard narrates as the all-knowing narrator, who also relies on family photos, archival footage and security recordings. Created by Mitchell Hurwitz, the comedy originally aired on Fox and later on Netflix, and the main cast includes Jason Bateman, Portia de Rossi and Will Arnett.

Trivia about Arrested Development

The original idea came from Ron Howard, who wanted a comedy in the style of handheld camera work and reality shows, but with a highly elaborate and very funny script.
Following the accounting scandals at Enron and Adelphia, Hurwitz proposed a story about a family that falls from wealth to ruin, and Howard and Imagine became interested in it.
Will Arnett was cast right away to play Gob after an audition in which he presented the character as a man who believed he was the chosen son.
Liza Minnelli accepted the role of Lucille 2 when Ron Howard asked her in person, because they were old friends and she had been his babysitter when he was a teenager.
The series was shot on location and in HD video at 24 frames per second, with multiple cameras, something uncommon for American live-action sitcoms of the time.
In November 2003, the hip hop group Arrested Development sued the show's producers over the alleged use of its name. The case was settled for an undisclosed amount.
The series won five Emmy Awards in 2004, including Outstanding Comedy Series, despite ending its 2003-2004 season in position 107 in U.S. Nielsen ratings.
FOX cut the second season from the planned 22 episodes to 18 and, for the third, reduced the initial order to 13 episodes before canceling the series in 2006.
