Judith Therese Evans decided her stage name would be Greer to avoid legal confusion in actors' registration records. It wasn't an aesthetic decision but an administrative formality that ended up defining one of the most consistent careers in the American industry.

She studied at the prestigious theater school of DePaul University, and just three days after graduating she already had a role in a big-budget romantic comedy.

Most viewers recognize her face before they remember her name.

In 1999, she appeared in Jawbreaker, and that cult teen classic cemented her image as the sharp-tongued supporting friend with a cutting remark for everything. She played it so well that for nearly two decades, the industry typecast her as the lead's best friend.

She appeared in 13 Going on 30 in 2004 and in 27 Dresses in 2008, playing characters who provided comic counterpoint to the leading stars. But Greer never complained about her lack of absolute top billing, because she understood that the volume of work was more valuable than the fleeting fame of movie posters.

A Haven for Voice and Chaos

Her arrival on Arrested Development in 2003 changed how casting directors saw her. Kitty Sanchez was an erratic, odd character. Greer seized that freedom to show she could handle a darker, more physical brand of comedy than Hollywood allowed her in film.

In 2009, she began voicing Cheryl Tunt in the animated series Archer.

This voice work spanned fourteen seasons and allowed her to explore a surreal comedy that few live-action actors get to touch. It was during this period that she began balancing independent productions with big action franchises.

In 2015, she appeared in Jurassic World and Ant-Man. In both films, she played the mother or sister of the leads. Still, her presence helped emotionally anchor sci-fi storylines that might otherwise have felt too cold for mainstream audiences.

New Horizons Behind the Camera

In 2017, she decided she had spent enough time taking orders and directed her first feature film, A Happening of Monumental Proportions. It was a risky bet that didn't aim for mass applause but rather to understand the creative process from the other side of the monitor.

And the gamble paid off.

Her role in the Halloween trilogy, which began in 2018, finally gave her a part with more dramatic and physical weight. Playing the daughter of Jamie Lee Curtis allowed her to break out of comedy and enter the genre film circuit with renewed authority.

In 2024, she released The Best Christmas Pageant Ever and The Fire Inside. She keeps up a work pace of more than three projects a year across film and television.

Her memoir, published in 2014, is titled I Don’t Know What You Know Me From. It is a statement of intent from a woman who has appeared in more than 150 film and TV productions without ever needing scandal to stay relevant.

In 2025, the thriller The Fisherwoman, filmed on location in Finland, is scheduled for release. Her per-episode television salary reached $150,000 in her most recent contracts from the 2020s.
