Synopsis of Kidding

Jeff Piccirillo, known as Mr. Pickles, has spent thirty years hosting a children's puppet show on PBS. The story takes place in Columbus, Ohio, where Jeff is loved by kids and parents alike. His father, Seb, the show's executive producer, wants the program to carry on as always, while his sister Deirdre, who makes the puppets, and his ex-wife Jill, a nurse, worry about him. But Jeff starts to notice that his personal life is falling apart and that things are getting worse faster than he can handle. He tries to keep up the friendly image the audience expects while the world outside the set becomes harder and harder. Created by Dave Holstein, the series stars Jim Carrey and airs on Showtime.

Trivia about Kidding

The series is the second collaboration between Michel Gondry and Jim Carrey, who had already worked together on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The Hollywood Reporter called Kidding the best Showtime series in a long time, and noted that it was Jim Carrey's first regular role in a series since In Living Color.
Olympic figure skater Tara Lipinski plays herself as the star hired to play Mr. Pickles in the "Pickles On Ice-tacular."
Conan O'Brien appears as himself in the episode "Green Means Go," in which Jeff is a guest on his show.
In September 2019, Showtime announced that the second season would not premiere on November 3, 2019, but on February 9, 2020.
Showtime canceled "Kidding" on July 15, 2020 after two seasons, so the series will not have a third season.
The second season averaged 89,000 viewers and a 0.02 rating among adults 18 to 49 years old, figures that were 63% and 74% lower, respectively, than those of the first season.
"Kidding" received two Golden Globe nominations in 2019: Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy and Best Actor for Jim Carrey.
