Synopsis of Ozark

Marty Byrde is a Chicago financial advisor who, together with his partner, has spent years laundering money for a Mexican cartel. When the operation goes wrong, Marty proposes a solution: set up an even bigger laundering business in the Lake of the Ozarks region of central Missouri. To carry out the job, he drags his wife, Wendy, and their children, Charlotte and Jonah, from a suburban development outside Chicago to Osage Beach, a remote summer resort town. There, the family soon crosses paths with local criminals, such as the Langmores and the Snells, and gets caught up in their affairs. Created by Bill Dubuque and streaming on Netflix, the series stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. Marty wants to save his life and the lives of his loved ones, but the deal he accepts puts the entire family in danger.

Trivia about Ozark

For the Blue Cat Lodge, the production chose JD's on the Lake, a lakeside restaurant in Canton, Georgia.

Jason Bateman was going to direct the entire first season alone, but the lack of preparation time meant directing only four episodes.

Software company Beam Solutions considered the series' depiction of money laundering to be "plausible and highly creative."

Julia Garner won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series three times, in 2019, 2020 and 2022.

Graphic designer Fred Davis created a white letter "O" on a black background that opens each episode.

In February 2018, a restaurant called «Marty Byrde's» opened on Lake Ozark in Missouri, serving dishes inspired by the series, such as the «Ruth's Smoked Wings».

The «Ozark» crew filmed mainly in Georgia, where Lake Allatoona and Lake Lanier stood in for the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri; the fourth season spent more than $57 million there and employed 1,385 local workers.

Showrunner Chris Mundy confirmed in 2025 that a possible spin-off of «Ozark» had been discussed, but clarified that nothing was final and no project was in development.
