Synopsis of Inventing Anna

New York, within the city's high society. Anna Sorokin, born in Russia, poses as Anna Delvey, a German socialite and heiress to a multimillion-dollar fortune. Under this invented identity, she infiltrates Manhattan's most exclusive circles, where she wins the trust of those around her while plotting to swindle them out of millions. Her goal is to secure a place among the elite without raising suspicion and to keep money flowing in. The miniseries, created by Shonda Rhimes and streaming on Netflix, makes this fake identity the core of the story. Julia Garner stars as the lead protagonist, and the cast also includes Anna Chlumsky, Arian Moayed and Katie Lowes.

Trivia about Inventing Anna

Jennifer Esposito joined the cast in February 2020, but never appeared in the series: the role of Talia was played by Marika Dominczyk.

Anna Sorokin received $320,000 for the rights to her story, money that was used to pay restitution and legal fees.

During its first 4 days on streaming, 1.6 million US households watched the series in the United States, according to data from Samba TV.

The series is one of the most-watched English-language shows in Netflix history, with 511.92 million hours watched in its first 28 days of release.

Hayley Maitland of Vogue criticized the series for showing falsehoods about Rachel Deloache Williams, who was identified by her full name, employer and real place of study.

The pandemic halted filming when roughly half of the prison scenes still had to be shot, so some sequences were filmed in different locations.

Julia Garner visited Anna Sorokin at Rikers Island prison as part of preparing to play Anna Delvey.

The crew spent three weeks filming in Marrakech and used the La Mamounia hotel, the same establishment and the same room where Sorokin had stayed.
