Anders Holm was born in 1981 in Evanston, and his first ambition had nothing to do with the spotlight. He was on the University of Wisconsin-Madison swim team. There he learned the discipline of daily training, but he also met the people who would change his career forever.
The comedy career was a logistical accident.
He moved to Los Angeles and co-founded the sketch group Mail Order Comedy with Blake Anderson, Adam DeVine, and Kyle Newacheck. They started out posting videos on YouTube back when the platform was a lot like a lot without clear rules. Those homemade recordings eventually became the foundation of Workaholics for Comedy Central.
The series premiered in 2011 and ran for seven seasons on air. Holm played Anders Holmvik, a version of himself with delusions of grandeur and an ill-fitting suit. He wrote and produced much of the eighty-six episodes the show ran for.
But Holm never got stuck on the couch with the three stoner friends.
In 2015 he landed a supporting role in The Intern alongside Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. He played Hathaway's husband, and his performance moved away from the physical comedy of his early days. It was a trial by fire that he passed without fuss in front of the cameras.
He appeared in How to Be Single in 2016 and in Game Over, Man! in 2018. The latter was a Netflix production that revived the rowdy spirit of his original group. Critics tore it apart mercilessly at the time.
Holm never seemed to care much about the consensus of the critics.
Because his career has always moved between self-created projects and high-profile assignments. In The Mindy Project he played Casey Peerson over several seasons and provided a much-needed comic counterpoint to Mindy Kaling's romantic storyline. There he proved he could carry a traditional sitcom.
In 2023 he joined the cast of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters for Apple TV+. He played a young version of Bill Randa in a storyline that jumps between the 1950s and the period after Godzilla appears. It was his most ambitious project up to that point in terms of visuals and budget.
That same year he worked on The Muppets Mayhem, playing a record executive. Holm knows his everyday, middle-class American look is a perfect tool for satire, so he exploits it with a naturalness that sometimes seems effortless but hides absolute technical control.
His salary per episode on major streaming productions has been kept under strict contract secrecy since his most recent renewals. He still lives in Los Angeles and keeps the structure of his original production company for independent projects.
In 2024 his work focused on executive producing new formats and developing scripts for cable television. The distribution deal for his latest international series was closed for a figure close to eight digits.
