Trivia about Queen of the South

Episodes other than the pilot were filmed in Dallas, Texas, starting in October 2015, and the shoot lasted 6 months.

USA Network picked up the pilot on May 12, 2015 and ordered a first season of 13 episodes.

The music is by Giorgio Moroder and Raney Shockne, who serve as the series' composers.

Netflix held the worldwide first-run rights to the series since 2016.

Pérez-Reverte has said that a major source of inspiration was Mexican narcocorridos, songs that tell the stories of real drug traffickers.

One of the real-life figures who inspired Pérez-Reverte's novel is Sandra Ávila Beltrán, known as the "Queen of the Pacific."

Actor Ryan O'Nan landed the role of King George, a character he had created, even though he initially weighed about 23 pounds less than the role called for and had to audition for it.

Production was halted during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the fifth season ended up being the last; Hemky Madera later said that seven seasons had been planned and that a spin-off centered on Pote had been considered.
