The Wire

In Baltimore, police and a drug trafficking network wage a constant battle in the city's west district. A group of officers reassigned from the narcotics unit is formed to gather evidence against the organization of Avon Barksdale, which controls much of the territory. Among the investigators stands out Detective Jimmy McNulty, played by Dominic West, whose insubordinate nature clashes with his talent for criminal investigation. The officers need judicial authorization to wiretap suspects' phone lines, while their superiors are more concerned with their careers than with the case. Created by David Simon and aired on HBO, the series shows the conflict from both sides: that of the law and that of those who sell drugs on the streets.
