Trivia about Scandal

Gabrielle Union and Taraji P. Henson auditioned for the lead role opposite Kerry Washington before she was officially chosen.

The series received the Peabody Award for excellence in television and was named Outstanding Drama Series at the Image Awards.

Chad Fischer composed the show's music throughout its run and won the BMI TV Music Award six times between 2013 and 2018.

Due to Kerry Washington's pregnancy, ABC Studios cut the season's episode order from 22 to 18, which brought the season finale forward by four weeks.

In August 2014, ABC scheduled its entire Thursday lineup with ShondaLand series under the name "Thank God It's Thursday," abbreviated TGIT.

Before casting Kerry Washington, ABC proposed Connie Britton for the role of Olivia Pope; Shonda Rhimes rejected the idea because the character was African American, and Jill Scott and Anika Noni Rose were also tested.

Kerry Washington directed an episode of the seventh and final season, after playing Olivia Pope throughout the entire series.

During Kerry Washington's pregnancy, the production hid her baby bump on screen with flowers, Prada bags, coats and capes.
