Synopsis of Continuum

In the year 2077, corporations govern North America, a police state where everything is under surveillance. Kiera Cameron, played by Rachel Nichols, is an agent with the city's protection services who lives in Vancouver with her husband, Greg, and their son, Sam. Her job is to hunt down Liber8, a rebel group that uses terrorist tactics. When the death-row inmates of Liber8, led by Edouard Kagame, activate a time machine during their execution, Kiera is pulled along with them to 2012. There she teams up with Detective Carlos Fonnegra of the Vancouver police to stop the rebels without revealing where she comes from.

Trivia about Continuum

Simon Barry had originally developed the series for American networks. When his friend, director Pat Williams, needed a pitch for Showcase, he gave him the idea, and the executives immediately commissioned the pilot.

The series was canceled midway through its story, but Showcase allowed six more episodes to be produced in a fourth season to wrap it up.

Simon Barry has said he would like to continue Kellog's story in book or graphic novel form, something the cancellation prevented on the series.

Critic David Hinckley of the New York Daily News compared the series to Life on Mars, another drama about a time-traveling cop.

The premiere of "Continuum" drew more than one million viewers aged two and over and broke the audience record for any previous Showcase premiere.

The third season finished with an audience of more than 2.35 million viewers and was the top-rated program of the night among Canadian specialty channels in the key demographic time slots.

Simon Barry said in 2014 that he had imagined a run of between seven and ten seasons for "Continuum," although the series ended after four.

"Continuum" won the Canadian Screen Award for Best Visual Effects and accumulated 23 wins and 52 nominations across various awards.
