Richard Harmon was born in Mississauga in 1991, surrounded by scripts and video cameras. His father, Allan Harmon, directed and his mother, Cynde Harmon, produced, so the film set was his natural playground from childhood. He debuted in 2002 with a brief role in the series Jeremiah and has been working in the Vancouver industry ever since.
He wasn't after fame, he was after the craft.
In his early years, he moved through one science fiction and horror production after another. In 2010 he appeared in Caprica and soon after landed a recurring role in The Killing. But it was his performance as Julian Randol in the series Continuum in 2012 that caught the attention of casting directors. He played a young radical with a coldness that contrasted with his real age.
That ability to play disturbed characters became his personal signature. Harmon has an intense gaze that projects a natural distrust on camera. As a result, producers stopped calling him for ideal-neighbor roles and started sending him scripts for complex antagonists.
In 2014, he auditioned for The 100 without knowing the project would take up nearly a decade of his career. John Murphy's character was designed to die early. But audience response and Harmon's chemistry with the rest of the cast led the writers to keep him alive for exactly one hundred episodes.
The Harmon surname is a household name in Canadian television.
He worked under his sister Jessica Harmon in several episodes of the series, a family dynamic they had already rehearsed in earlier projects. In 2015 he appeared in the film The Age of Adaline alongside Blake Lively. Although it was a supporting role, that foray into big-budget romantic cinema broadened his résumé beyond fantasy genres.
Still, the actor always preferred independent productions where he has more creative control. In 2018, he starred in I Still See You alongside Bella Thorne. In this supernatural thriller, he once again leaned into his enigmatic persona, a cynical exterior hiding dark secrets.
In 2020, he wrapped up his long run in network television and sought characters with more self-contained story arcs. He appeared in the series Kung Fu in 2021 and a year later shot the tech horror film Margaux. His per-project fee held steady while his name appeared more and more often in executive producer credits.
Directing is his logical next step.
In 2023, he joined the DC Comics universe playing Captain Boomerang in the final season of The Flash. It was a casting choice meant to bring back the energy of his early work in The 100. That same year he shot several episodes of The Night Agent for Netflix, a production that drew massive audiences on its release.
In 2024 he joined the cast of the series Wild Cards playing Casey Wentworth. Filming took place mainly on locations in British Columbia under the supervision of Blink49 Studios. The production had an estimated budget of two million dollars per episode.
