Freddie Highmore

Freddie Highmore was born in London in 1992, surrounded by scripts and casting calls. His mother is Sue Latimer, the agent who managed Daniel Radcliffe's early years. His father is actor Edward Highmore.

In 2004, he shared the screen with Johnny Depp in Finding Neverland. Depp was so impressed by his powers of concentration that he asked for him to appear in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory the following year. And the gamble paid off.

But Highmore didn't want to become a burnout.

The Cambridge Academic Retreat

While other actors his age were hanging out at nightclubs, he enrolled at Emmanuel College. He studied Arabic and Spanish between 2010 and 2014, because he needed a life away from the Hollywood spotlight.

During his third year of university, he worked at a law firm in Madrid. No one in the office suspected that the British intern was a global star. He spoke Spanish fluently before turning twenty.

This college stage allowed him to step away from the industry during his teenage years. It was a logistical decision that avoided the wear and tear typical of child actors. In 2014, he graduated with honors while balancing his exams with international shoots.

The Metamorphosis into Norman Bates

In 2013, he took on the challenge of playing a young Norman Bates in the series Bates Motel. The project was risky because Anthony Perkins' shadow over Hitchcock's original work was very long. But Highmore built a profile of his own.

Highmore decided to get involved in the creative side of fiction. In 2016, he wrote the script for the episode titled Unfaithful. A year later, he directed the episode Inseparable.

The industry realized that Highmore was much more than an actor.

The show stayed on the air until 2017, running for a total of fifty episodes. During that period, the actor learned how TV production works from the inside. So by the time the series ended, he already had a clear idea of his next move.

Total Control of Production

In 2017, he signed on to star in The Good Doctor as Shaun Murphy. He didn't just take on the lead role. From day one, he insisted on being credited as an executive producer so he would have a say in casting and storyline decisions.

In 2018, the series reached peaks of 18 million viewers in the United States. The commercial success allowed him to produce other projects through his company Alfresco Pictures. In 2021, he filmed the heist movie The Vault in Spain, directed by Jaume Balagueró.

Filming for his medical series moved to Vancouver, where he stayed until May 2024. During that time, he also voiced the animated film The Canterville Ghost in 2023. He has never had social media profiles.

In 2021, he confirmed his marriage in a televised interview after months of speculation. He lives in London and keeps a strict distance from the gossip press. The contract for The Good Doctor officially ended after 126 episodes produced by Sony Pictures Television.
