James Matthew Barrie is a British playwright going through a rough patch in his career. His recent plays are no longer well received, and the failure of his play Little Mary leaves him without a clear project. He decides to write a new story, but he doesn't yet have an idea that convinces him. One day, in Kensington Gardens, he crosses paths with Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, a widow walking with her four sons: George, Jack, Peter and Michael. Barrie begins spending time with the boys, and their games spark ideas in him that he doesn't yet know where will lead. The film is directed by Marc Forster and stars Johnny Depp.
