Synopsis of Poldark
In late eighteenth-century England, Captain Ross Poldark returns to Nampara, his home in Cornwall, after three years in the army and a war in America. A difficult situation awaits him: his father has died, the estate is in ruins, and he is deeply in debt. His former sweetheart, Elizabeth, is engaged to his cousin Francis. Ross wants to recover the family fortune and reopen an abandoned mine, a project that clashes with the interests of George Warleggan, a greedy and arrogant rival who also fights for control of the mines. To keep the estate afloat he needs help, and in the Truro market he rescues a young woman from a beating and hires her as a kitchen assistant. The series airs on BBC One and stars Aidan Turner.
