What Season 1 of Poldark

In 1783, Captain Ross Poldark returns to Nampara, his home in Cornwall, after three years in the army and a war in America. He is greeted by a bleak scene: his father has died, the estate is in ruins and debts are piling up. His former sweetheart, Elizabeth, is engaged to his cousin Francis. Ross wants to recover the family fortune and reopen an abandoned mine, a plan that clashes with George Warleggan, a greedy and arrogant rival who is also fighting for control of the mines. To get the estate back on its feet, he needs help, and at the Truro market he rescues Demelza, a young woman who has been beaten, and hires her as a kitchen assistant.
