Synopsis of Strike

Cormoran Strike is a war veteran who has turned his experience into a career as a private detective. He works from a small office on Denmark Street in London, and carries both physical and psychological wounds that shape his daily life. His past as an investigator with the Special Investigation Branch gives him a very distinctive approach to cases that the police have failed to solve for a long time. To get the job done, he relies on Robin Ellacott, his trusted assistant, a young woman who becomes a key part of the agency. The series, created by J. K. Rowling with Ben Richards and Tom Edge, airs on BBC One and stars Tom Burke as Strike.

Trivia about Strike

Following the premiere of The Ink Black Heart on HBO on January 23, 2025, the series came close to ranking among the ten most-watched streaming series on Max after the second episode aired.
A private house in Sevenoaks, Kent, served as the Bristow residence in the episodes "The Cuckoo's Calling" and "The Silkworm," although it was not a location in the city.
Morgan Jeffery of Digital Spy praised the performances of Burke and Grainger after reviewing the first episode, calling Burke's a revelation.
The first episode of the adaptation of The Silkworm was criticized for showing a suicide scene on World Suicide Prevention Day.
Ben Richards compared Strike to the British detective series Inspector Morse, and said the show is very different from other crime dramas in both tone and visual style.
The series' seventh installment, titled "The Running Grave," will have five episodes of 60 minutes each and will reunite Tom Burke and Holliday Grainger. The BBC is slated to air it in 2026, though no exact air date has been announced yet.
"The Running Grave" will add James Fleet, Nichola McAuliffe, Keeley Forsyth, Fabian McCallum and John Lynch to its cast, while Ruth Sheen returns to play Pat, the head of Strike's office.
The production of "The Running Grave" is based on the novel of the same name by Robert Galbraith and is a co-production of BBC, HBO and Warner Bros. Discovery.
