Aliens vs. the neighborhood.

On Bonfire Night, Sam, a young nurse, returns home after her shift through a housing estate in south London. As she crosses the grounds, a gang of teenagers led by Moses surrounds and mugs her. The robbery is abruptly interrupted when a strange object falls from the sky nearby and releases a small alien creature. The boys, who were only after loot, suddenly find themselves facing something they don't understand. Joe Cornish wrote and directed the film, which stars John Boyega and Jodie Whittaker.

Trivia about Attack the Block

The soundtrack was composed by British electronic music group Basement Jaxx and by Steven Price.

According to the DVD commentary, the echolocation sounds combine dolphin sonar with growls from dozens of animals and even a woman's scream.

In 2023, Cornish said the design of the creatures was partly based on his cat, which "devours the darkness."

American distributors feared audiences wouldn't understand the thick South London accents and even considered using subtitles.

The complex's tower is called Wyndham Tower, a nod to science fiction writer John Wyndham, and other buildings are named after J. G. Ballard, H. G. Wells, Aldous Huxley and Douglas Adams.

Cornish wanted to counter the trend of "hoodie horror," films that demonized urban youth.

In North America it was a box office flop despite generally receiving positive reviews.

In May 2025, John Boyega confirmed that the script for the sequel was finished and that he would reprise his role, while also serving as a producer.
