Synopsis of La Brea

A massive sinkhole opens up in the middle of Los Angeles, at the Asphalt Pits on La Brea and Wilshire Boulevard, pulling hundreds of people, vehicles and buildings into the depths. The Harris family, made up of Eve, Gavin, Izzy and Josh, is torn apart by the catastrophe. Those who survive wake up in a primitive, mysterious and dangerous land, where they must band together to make it through. Up above, the rest of the world tries to understand what has happened. Trivia about La Brea

Production began filming in Melbourne, Australia, on May 3, 2021 and wrapped in September of that same year.

The heavily effects-driven production spent 71 million dollars in Australia, making it the most expensive television production in Victoria since The Pacific.

Eoin Macken joined the cast on March 4, 2021 to replace Michael Raymond-James, who had been cast as the lead in February 2020.

The cast had contracts requiring them to be paid for at least ten episodes per season. They agreed to be released from those contracts in exchange for reducing the third season to six episodes.

The critic for The Globe and Mail wrote, in reviewing the pilot, that the series is so terrible it's hooked on how bad it is.

The Guardian gave the British premiere of 2022 five stars, though it described it as "gloriously, shamelessly bad."

The series was one of 94 of the 200 most popular scripted series to receive the ReFrame stamp for gender balance in hiring between 2021 and 2022.
